Cancun is one of the finest beach destinations in the world. Today it is more American than Mexican in nature. This all took place in roughly 1974. In less than three decades it was transformed from an isolated beach into a five star resort. This was done by a group of Mexican computer analysts that saw Cancun as a great investment opportunity. Cancun has suffered losses from Hurricane Wilma and several other tropical storms and has emerged stronger and more state of the art each time. Each storm forced upgrades, re- models and more and more luxurious accommodations.
The allure of Cancun is definitely its Caribbean Beach. Cancun is just a 15 mile stretch of land encompassed by breathtaking beaches that run 15 miles and connect to the main land by two bridges. Nichupte Lagoon separates modern Cancun from its jungle past.
Cancun provides a cultural feel and the highest quality accommodations around. You can visit the ruins of Tulum, Chichen Itza and Coba. Cancun has incredible accommodations where one can l
Two main Caribbean Islands in Mexico are Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. These islands provide a great escape from the busy and high energy of Cancun and Riviera Maya. These islands are small and have roads that do not go very far. You will see more mopeds than trucks or automobiles. There is a sense of remoteness here. These islands still offer a variety of hotels and outdoor activities and are a short ferry ride from the mainland.
Northeast of Cancun is where Isla Mujeres lies. Isla Mujeres is shaped like a fish and is a short 8 miles boat ride away. You can really enjoy its entire splendor by staying the night and enjoying the shopping and wandering its streets. You can catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres at Punto Juarez or you can even hop on the car ferry in Punta Sam. There are more expensive exclusive ferries that depart from Playa Linda on the island of Cancun.
Cozumel is about 12 miles from Playa Del Carmen and is larger than Isla Mujeres. Cozumel is known primarily as a popular cruise ship port of call as we

There are several hills with winding roads and alleys. Chipi chipi which is fine mist rain floats in the air of Xalapa. On a clear day you can see the snow topped mountain of Pico de Orizaba which is a volcano and also the tallest mountain in Mexico. The best music school is located in Xalapa at the University Of Veracruz. Xalapa is famous for its symphony orchestra and for an anthropology which is comparable only to Mexico City’s museum. For the more daring Xalapa offers white river rafting.
Getting There
Veracruz has an airport and is about an hour and a half from Xalapa. You can drive on highway 180 to Cardel and then exit to highway 140. Fog is common in these parts so be careful. You will find Playa Del Carmen about one hour from the Luxurious resort town of Cancun. It is very cheap to get there by either taxi or by bus. Playa Del Carmen is a much smaller village like destination. There is an incredible amount of European influence here where you will only find much smaller scaled accommodation. You will not find the ritzy sky scraper hotels that are so abundant in Cancun. Playa Del Carmen is truly a treasured town where you can lose yourself in the wonderful boutiques, and reside in some of the sweetest more traditional hotels that Playa del Carmen specializes in.
A lot of the population that live here are Europeans probably due to heavy European influence here. Although its size is small and village like, you will find some really incredible restaurants to dine at with cuisine that is out of this world.
Tulum is set in the Caribbean to the south of Akumal.
