You can find many deals and steals if you head over to Calle 44 where all the budget accommodations can be found. Albergue / Hostel La Candelaria is located in the peaceful area of Parque La Candeleria which is located on the corner of Calle 44 and Calle 35. This building used to be a colonial mansion and has a very calming and feel of home. Many people end up staying a few nights over their planned visit because they feel so at home here. The rooms come with fans, and the facility has an outdoor kitchen as well as a Laundromat on the premises. You can choose to have a picnic in the garden of leaves or watch TV in the community center. Here you will get a free breakfast of fruit with each night you stay here. If you would like to get a bunk they will charge you 110 pesos a night or you may also reserve a private hotel room for 240 pesos a night. They only a...    less

The state of Campeche occupies the Western third of the Yucatan Peninsula. Not often visited by tourists makes it a wonderful little hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the busier areas of The Yucatan Peninsula. Campeche is also the name of its capital city. In Mexico several states share the same names as their capital cities. For instance Chiuahuaha is the name of a Mexican state and also its capital city. You can drive here from Merida in a short two hours. Campeche is full of naval history and you will also enjoy architecture from the Baroque Spanish period. Campeche offers history, and relaxation in a breathtaking seaside setting. There used to be a hexagon wall shaped like a hexagon surrounding the city, similar to one found in Cartagena, Columbia. This wall was 2.5km long and housed fortresses that made it hard to penetrate this city during war time. The wall no longer stands it has been replaced by a highway however seven of the eight bulwarks or baluaretes still exist. Four of which have beautif

Merida has an awesome history and serves as a nice in between spot while you discover the wonderful many jewels available to you within the Yucatan Peninsula. Some of the many awesome treasures you will find are eco systems that have guided tours along with several Mayan ruin sites. Merida is the capital of Yucatan State and lays less than 20 miles from the western coast where the Progreso Beach Resort is a very popular tourist attraction. With its size looming just over 1.1 million it is still one of the most welcoming and friendly places you will find in Mexico. Merida is a lot like Oaxaca in that they both combine colonial type buildings and share a lot of native heritage. You will see most of the hype is surrounded by the zocalo which means neighborhood. It is a wonderful place to start you will enjoy all the tall and shady trees looming over the incredible colonial architecture that is so popular here. A lot of buildings are very light shades of pink and white and that is how the city received its nickname

Quintano Roo, Yucatan, and Campeche are the states that make up the Yucatan Peninsula. Campeche is the capital of Campeche, Chetumal is the capital of Quintana Roo and Merida is the capital of Yucatan also within the peninsula is the famous resort spots of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel. While traveling in the Yucatan Peninsula don’t forget the check out the beautiful cities of Akumal, Grutas de Balankanche, Isla Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Rio Largartos and also Xei-Ha. Another couple of beautiful places to visit are Escarcega, Ticul, Vallodis, and don’t forget Progresso. The Yucatan Peninsula is very unique in relation to the rest of Mexico. The people are much more laid back and really know the science of relaxing like no other. This big laid back culture stems primarily from their rich Mayan heritage. The people are so kind and welcoming. You will feel like you stepped into a different period of time while traveling within the Yucatan Peninsula. You will find a lot of modern conveniences however you wil

You will find Valladolid in the ancient Mayan area of Zaci which is located in Yucatan State. Valladolid is south of the Gulf of Mexico. Valladolid is in between Merida and Cancun. You can travel to Valladolid via Highway 180. A lot of history is buried here that you will just not want to miss! Late in the 16th century it had actually been covered or built over by the Spanish. Valladolid had been stolen after a long drawn out battle in 1847 by the Mayans which was said to have lasted for over two months. This famous battle was known as the War of the Castes. Some more history you will want to check out is the Church of San Bernadino and the Convent of Sisal which are some of the most ancient buildings in the Yucatan Peninsula and date back to the 1550's. The buildings had dual purpose to serve as a church and a hideaway fortress during conflict periods. You will not find a lot of decor or design on these buildings due to the heavy conflict and bloodshed that was occurring at the time. You will definitely wan

Tulum is set in the Caribbean to the south of Akumal. Tulum draws most of its traffic due to many wonderful archaeological sites and because it has a very convenient location in relation to that of Cancun. Tulum is similar to Playa del Carmen because you will notice lots of influence form the international world and because so many of its visitors are from Europe craving exploration and adventure and this number continues to grow each year. Unusual petite beach resorts, luxury spas, down home hotels, delicious dining, lively bars, and endless shops and boutiques are some of the attractions you will enjoy while traveling to Tulum. There is a village in Tulum where you can find any incidentals that you may need for your trip. You will have the convenience of scuba diving stands, rental car stations, moped rentals, bicycle rentals and pretty much any sport known there has some kind of assistance available. You have the availability to ride a bus in Playa del Carmen that makes many trips back and forth from Tulum
