A closer look at the Cancun and Tulum will show that these places are actually very distinct, and owning a condo in one place is very different from the other. Consider some of these differences when you make your choice.
So, you’re planning on investing in a Mexico condo for sale on the Caribbean coast – the picture-perfect beaches stretching south from Cancun for a few hundred miles. Everyone has some idea what Cancun real estate is all about – and more and more people are getting to know about Tulum real estate. But, in the end, it’s all the same thing, right? Tulum is just a decade or so away from becoming another Cancun … or is it?
A closer look at the two locations will show that they are actually very distinct, and owning a condo in one place is very different from the other. First of all, it’s important to recognize that they do share the beautiful beachfront of the Caribbean, as well as year-round warm weather, and the thriving economy of Latin America’s most important tourism region. But the way in which these items play out in each places is different. Consider some of these differences when you make your choice:
City vs. Town – Currently, this is the simple truth of the matter; Cancun is a mid-sized city, soon to be the largest on the Yucatan Peninsula. It has the style of a well-designed suburb, picturesque, clean and easy to get around. Tulum is a town of 25,000 people. Even as the town grows, the growth plan includes various town and village center areas to keep the feeling small and quiet.
Conveniences vs. Nature – Cancun is the area’s main commercial center. This means condo owners can enjoy close access to malls, international restaurant chains and many other conveniences from back home. Tulum’s focus has been to develop a sense of ecological responsibility, combining new development with preservation and sustainability.
High-rise vs. Low-rise – In terms of condo buildings, as you might guess Cancun’s specialty is high rise. These not only offer wide views of the beaches and Caribbean Sea, but also lower prices and more on-site amenities (gyms, spas, etc.) Condos in Tulum can be found with pools and lounge areas, and are always low-rise. This ties into the small-town, nature-focused culture.
The difference between the two is actually fairly strong. If you’re not sure which is right for you, make a visit, or tell an experienced agent about your dream property in the area, and they will point you to the one most suitable for your tastes and needs.
